Discontent of the Azerbaijani authorities in regard to the gross linguistic mistake and distortion while interpreting the statement of the OSCE PA on non-compliance of the parliamentary elections in Azerbaijan to international standards in regard to the democratic elections has been brought to the attention of relevant representatives and observers of this organization, the press secretary of the Azerbaijan’s president Azer Gasimov said in a statement, Trend reports.

The OSCE official representatives accepted our remarks and promised to correct this mistake in the shortest possible time, he said. The press secretary noted with regret, that the OSCE official site placed the material under the title “Elections in Azerbaijan do not meet international standards”, i.e., with erroneous translation. Actually, no international institution, no international observer said anything of the kind, Gasimov stressed.

An interpreter, according to Gasimov, translated the phrase of the OSCE PA chairman in the following way: В"The elections held yesterday have not met the OSCE commitments and the valid international standards in the field of democratic elections”. The exact translation of the sentence is: В"The yesterday elections have not met a number of valid OSCE commitments and the Council of Europe standards in holding democratic elections”.
