Culture Minister: Da Vinci`s Code Screening Stopped in Azerbaijan

According to the recommendation of the Azerbaijan Ministry of Culture and Tourism, the Management of the Cinema of Azerbaijan has stopped the screening of Da Vinci`s Code, the Minister of Culture and Tourism of Azerbaijan Abulfaz Garayev told Trend.

Azerbaijan is a secular state, and religion is apart from the state, stated the Minister. According to him, the movie Da Vinci`s Codemuch talked all around the world was screened in Azerbaijan within the worldwide screening of the movie, and from the direction of a private company. Following appeals of the Chief of Administration of Caucasus Muslims Sheikh-ul-Islam Allahshukur Pashazadeh and many other figures of different religious of Azerbaijan, the Ministry recommended the cinemas management to stop the screening of the movie.

The Minister also pointed out with regrets that today the Ministry of Culture and Tourism of Azerbaijan does not possess mechanisms to control such facts. The Ministry works on preparing a special list of movies that will be screened in cinemas of the country in the future, he added.

It should be mentioned that Ron Howards movie shoot on the base of the book written by Den Brown was subjected to sharp criticism from Vatican. The point that the sense of all Christian faith is called in question in this movie was a reason of such a criticism.
