Tormenting the former department chief of the Azerbaijani Justice Ministry Alhuseyn Shaliyev cannot be reason for his committing suicide in the hospital, Azerbaijani Ombudsman Elmira Huseynova told Trend.

It should be mentioned that the former chief of the Entrepreneurship Development Department of Azerbaijani Economic Development Ministry Alhuseyn Shaliyev who was arrested in November of last year committed suicide in the hospital of the Justice Ministry where he was receiving a treatment. After the arrest of the former economic development minister of Azerbaijan Farhad Aliyev, a criminal case was raised against A.Shaliyev.

The Ombudsman Huseynova stressed that the Justice Ministry carries out an investigation work re relation with Shaliyevs committing suicide. The

ombudsman pointed out the before his death, the prisoner wrote a letter and didnt accuse anybody of his death. We keep this event under control. The Ombudsman Office is interested in the condition of prisoners. That person was kept at the Natinal Security Ministry and afterwards he was transferred to the hospital of the Justice Ministry because his health became worse, Huseynova added.

Be expressing attitude towards the existence of pressures among the reasons for his committing suicide, Huseynova stated that it was impossible to torment the former department chief in the place where he was kept. I take full responsibility that no pressures could be applied against him. Some organizations try to link such cases with pressures and violence against prisoners. But no tormenting can be the topic of discussions. Because I have regularly met with them at the prison of the National Secutiry Ministry. I consider that the reason of suicide will be cleared in result of investigation, Huseynova emphasized.
