Mikhael Machavariani, the Deputy Speaker of the Georgian Parliament, who has recently returned from Baku, stated in talks with journalists that Russia has put pressure on Azerbaijan not to allow the sale of additional gas to Georgia, Trend Special Correspondent in Tbilisi reports. Mr. Machavariani represented Georgia at a Baku meeting of Parliamentary Assembly of the Black Sea of Economic Co-operation.
Russia informed Azerbaijan that if Russian gas transported to Azerbaijan was then sold to Georgia, Azerbaijan will suffer a price increase. Our Azerbaijani counterparts informed us that Azerbaijan is willing to assist Georgia and are seeking ways to resolve this problem, Machavariani stated. He stressed that such pressure was intolerable.
