Afshar Suleymani, the Iranian Ambassador to Azerbaijan, stated in talks with journalists on 1 December that Georgia has repeatedly appealed to Iran for the import of gas to cover domestic demand, Trend reports. Last year we delivered gas to Georgia via the territory of Azerbaijan. Azerbaijan also wants to import gas from Iran. However, it is necessary to take into consideration Iran's capacity. Discussions regarding prices and technical issues of gas delivery will continue, he noted.
Azerbaijan does not exclude the possibility of purchasing some 1bln cu.m of gas from Iran. There is the Baku-Astara-Bind-Biand pipeline between the two countries.
Iran has opportunities to deliver gas not only to Georgia, but also Azerbaijan. But the issue is still to be discussed, the Ambassador stated.
He noted that a protocol of intention was signed as a result of the visit of Azerbaijani First Premier, Yagub Eyyubov, to Iran.
Iran submitted several pages of a report so that Azerbaijan could state its position. The prices will be discussed further, he concluded.
