Azerbaijan, Baku / Trend I.Alizade / The present format of the Central Election Commission (CEC) of Azerbaijan corresponds with the realities of Azerbaijan. The Vice Speaker of Milli Majlis [Azerbaijani Parliament] and also member of the Executive Board of ruling new Azerbaijan Party (NAP), Bahar Muradova, said that the proposals on formation of the election commissions on a parity base are senseless. "Those who make such proposals should pay attention to the ratio of the political forces. How should weak opposition be represented at the same level with power?" Muradova said.
According to him, all sides should accept the force of the power and weakness of the opposition. "The opposition should know that the destiny of the elections are solved not be persons involved in election commission, but voters. They should understand this reality," she said.
The negotiations continue between official Baku, Venice Commission of the Council of Europe and OSCE Office for Democratic Institutes and Human Rights with regards to the improvement of the electoral legislation of Azerbaijan. The European organizations require that the election commissions should be formed on a parity base.
