Iran's Imam Khomeini port sees rise in cargo handling

BAKU, Azerbaijan, May 7. The volume of loaded and unloaded cargo at Imam Khomeini Port of Khuzestan Province, located in southwestern Iran, increased by 51 percent in the first month of the current Iranian year (from March 20 through April 20, 2024) compared to the same month of last year, director general of the Port and Maritime Administration of Iran's Khuzestan Province, Abu Talib Gerayloo said, Trend reports.

According to him, about 4.48 million tons of cargo were loaded and unloaded at Imam Khomeini Port in the first month.

Gerayloo added that 1.5 million tons of necessary products were unloaded at Imam Khomeini Port in the first month. This is 82 percent more than the same month last year.

The official stated that about 781,000 tons of mining raw materials and chemical products were loaded and unloaded at Imam Khomeini Port in the first month. This figure increased by 7 percent compared to the same month last year.

Gerayloo noted that about 2 million tons of crude oil and petroleum products were loaded and unloaded at Imam Khomeini Port in the first month. The volume of crude oil and petroleum products loaded and unloaded increased by 62.5 percent compared to the same month last year.

“During the first month, 2 million tons of products were exported through Imam Khomeini Port. This figure increased by 29 percent compared to the same month last year. About 1.82 million tons of products were imported through Imam Khomeini Port in the first month. The import of products increased by 61 percent compared to the same month last year," he said.

However, 47.5 million tons of cargo were loaded and unloaded at Iran's Imam Khomeini Port last year. This is 8 percent more than the previous year.

To note, Imam Khomeini Port has the potential to load and unload 60 million tons of oil and non-oil products per year.
