ASTANA, Kazakhstan, May 7. The volume of gas production at Kazakhstan's Karachaganak field will be 24.013 billion cubic meters in 2024, Trend reports, with reference to forecasts from the nation's Ministry of Energy.
According to the Ministry, in 2030, gas production at the Karachaganak field will increase to 31.374 billion cubic meters.
Gas production forecast at Karachaganak field from 2024 to 2030 (billion m3):
Year | 2024 | 2025 | 2026 | 2027 | 2028 | 2029 | 2030 |
Total fields' gas output | 60.456 | 72.717 | 74.707 | 82.220 | 83.932 | 86.109 | 90.725 |

Meanwhile, in 2023, Kazakhstan's gas output was 59.063 billion cubic meters, with the largest fields being Tengiz (16.009 billion cubic meters), Karachaganak (22.385 billion cubic meters), Kashagan (11.856 billion cubic meters), and others (8.813 billion cubic meters).
To note, the Karachaganak oil and gas condensate field, located in the West Kazakhstan region, is one of the largest oil and gas condensate fields in the world, with geological initial reserves of more than 1.7 billion tons of liquid hydrocarbons and more than 1.7 trillion cubic meters of gas. The field was discovered in 1979, and pilot development of the field began in 1984.
The Karachaganak project is being implemented under the Final Production Sharing Agreement (FPSA) concluded between the government of Kazakhstan and the Alliance of Companies, represented by Shell with 29.25 percent, ENI with 29.25 percent, Chevron with 18 percent, Lukoil with 13.5 percent, and KazMunayGas with 10 percent shares. The agreement was signed on November 18, 1997, for a period of 40 years, and entered into force on January 27, 1998.
