Swiss and Czechs 0-0 at halftime
Switzerland and Czech Republic were drawing 0-0 at halftime after the Swiss had the better of the first 45 minutes of their Euro 2008 Group A opening match on Saturday, Reuters reported.
The tournament co-hosts began well with striker Alex Frei shooting wide in the third minute and Valon Behrami firing straight at Czech goalkeeper Petr Cech in the 16th minute at St Jakob Park.
Frei was on target in the 36th minute when his shot from 30 metres was parried by Czech keeper Petr Cech.
The Swiss were lucky, though, to avoid an own goal in the 14th minute when Ludovic Magnin headed David Jarolim's cross towards his own goal and forced Diego Benaglio to make a one-handed save.
