At least nine people listed in a German
database "Violent criminals in sport" are working in Austria as part of the Euro 2008 security operation, the German Welt am Sonntag Sunday
paper said.
Welt am Sonntag said that a police check revealed these people worked for a
sub-contractor of a security firm in Klagenfurt, one of the tournament host
cities. The German database of troublemakers lists 9,700 people.
The managing director of the company confirmed the Welt am Sonntag
investigation but said that the people in question had not violated Austrian
law. The company said it recruited 240 Germans after not finding enough
personnel in Austria.
Austrian tournament officials said they could rule out that the people in
question worked in Euro 2008 stadiums, dpa
reported.
