Azerbaijan, Baku, 19 June / Trend corr. T.Abbasov / The court process by the appeal of Farhad Aliyev, former Azerbaijani Economic Development Minister, was started.
During the process in the Appeal Court in Baku, Alimardan Sadigov, Aliyev's lawyer, asked the court to familiarize him with the materials of the criminal case. Court received the request and postponed the process to 24 June.
Farhad Aliyev and his brother Rafik Aliyev, the former President of the Azpetrol Group of Companies, are accused of committing corruption-related and attempts for a coup d'etat and staging of mass disorders in the country. F.Aliyev and R.Aliyev were arrested on 19 October 2005.
F.Aliyev was accused with the Articles 179.3.1, 179.3.2, 192.2.1 (illegal business), 192.2.2 (illegal business committed by organized group), 206.4 (smuggling), 213 (tax evasion), 308.2 (abuse of power), 311.3.1 (bribery taking), 311.3.2 (repeated bribery taking), 311.3.3 (bribery taking in large sum) and 313 (service forgery) of the Criminal Code of the Azerbaijani Republic. R.Aliyev was accused with the Articles 213 (tax evasion) and 206.4 (smuggling).
The accusations on the coup d'etat and staging of mass disorders were taken for separate consideration.
Under the verdict by the Heinous Crime Court, former Minister and his brother were sentenced to 10 and 9 years of imprisonment. According to the Court's decision, F.Aliyev and R.Aliyev cannot take state positions within five years after releasing from prison.
