Five thousand guns, allocated by the Bolshevik government, were meant for Armenian servicemen in Baku. These armed forces, in turn, were sent to murder and genocide of the Azerbaijanis, Deputy Director of the Institute of History of ANAS Jabi Bayramov said in an interview with the website of the ruling New Azerbaijan party.

He said after the fall of czarist Russia in February 1917 the Bolsheviks in October that year, seized power through military coup.

On December 16, Stepan Shaumyan, who was chairman of the Baku council, on the orders of Lenin was appointed Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary and was assigned 500,000 rubles. And in January, again on the orders of Lenin the Baku Council was given 30.8 million rubles, 5,000 rifles, two airplanes and two armored cars.

"I will also note that, according to Arzindzhan agreement, the Russian army had to return from the Caucasus front to Russia. As part of the Russian troops there were Armenian military units and 5,000 their soldiers who fought against Turkey," said the historian.

The genocide that began on March 24, 1918 against the Azerbaijanis and led by Shaumyan lasted several days. During this period on the territory of Azerbaijan about 700,000 people were killed. According to figures released by the Emergency Commission of Inquiry established by the Azerbaijan Democratic Republic, during the events more than 12 thousand of Azerbaijanis were killed in Baku. According to other sources, this figure is much higher, Bayramov said.

"For example, issues of the Azerbaijan newspaper during this period noted that during the March events in Baku and the surrounding villages more than 30,000 Azerbaijanis were killed. And one of the representatives of the Armenians themselves said: "We killed in Baku, 25 thousand people," the historian said.

He noted that in general in the South Azerbaijan 150,000 people were killed, in the city of Urmia - 10,000 people, the Armenians completely destroyed 75 villages in Shamakhi, 122 - Guba, and 115 - Zangezur.
