BAKU, Azerbaijan, August 20. The monitoring was carried out in four villages of Gazakh that came back to Azerbaijan in the delimitation process in May this year, the Chairperson of the Azerbaijan Campaign Against Mines Public Association Hafiz Safikhanov said, Trend reports.

He made the announcement at a press conference dedicated to the results of the project “Strengthening International Support to Azerbaijan in Demining.”

Safikhanov said that the mentioned territories were mined to the teeth.

“Tragically, these four villages were hit by mine explosions during this process,” he emphasized.

To note, on August 2, mines planted by Armenia exploded in Gizilhajili village of Gazakh district, which was returned to Azerbaijan under the agreement on the delimitation of the Azerbaijani-Armenian border of April 19, 2024.

As a result of the incident, a serviceman of the State Border Service (SBS) of Azerbaijan, petty officer Ahadli Khayal, and an employee of the Agency for Demining of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Afig Mehdizade, were wounded in the leg area due to the explosion of an anti-personnel mine while demining in the performance of their official duties. Mine Action Agency employees Alakbarov Elchin and Mirzayev Yaver received shrapnel wounds.
