AGHDAM, Azerbaijan, September 21. Construction of the Aghdam-Asgaran-Khojaly-Khankendi highway is rapidly ongoing, the representative of the State Agency of Azerbaijan Automobile Roads Mammad Mammadov told Trend.
According to him, the total length of the road project, branching from the 40th kilometer of the Barda-Aghdam highway, is 33.6 kilometers.
“Taking into account the development plan of Karabakh, the highway was designed in accordance with the first and second technical categories. A 12-kilometer section of the highway is being reconstructed according to the second technical category. The width of the roadbed on this section will be 15 meters, with two lanes, and the width of the carriageway will be 7.5 meters," Mammadov said.
According to him, a 21.6-kilometer section of the highway is being reconstructed according to the first technical category.
"The width of the roadbed on this section will be 26.5 meters, with a carriageway width of 15 meters and four lanes - two in each direction. The road will include the construction of drainage pipes of various diameters, two crossings, and five bridges.
Those traveling to the cities of Khankendi, Shusha, and Lachin from the Barda direction will be able to continue using this ring road without entering the city of Aghdam. This road will ease transportation and significantly impact the development of agriculture and tourism in the region," the agency representative added.
