Investigation over Criminal Case of Azeri Publicist Insulting Muhammad Prophet Finished

The investigation regarding the criminal cases of publicist Rafig Tagi and Editor-in-Chief of Senet newspaper, Samir Sadagatoglu, who are accused of insulting Muhammad Prophet finished, said the lawyer of the two accused persons, Sayyad Mammadov informed Trend.

Due to the upcoming holidays, forwarding materials of the cases to the consideration of the court may be postponed. The materials are intended to be sent to the court at the beginning of January 2007.

When Tagi was detained under investigation, he was given an opportunity to meet his family members.

Rafig Tagi published an article Europe and US in Senet newspaper. The opinions voiced in the article about Muhammad Prophet caused the protest of people believing in Prophet. According to the article 283.1 of the Criminal Code of Azerbaijan, criminal cases were raised against Rafig Tagi and Samir Sadagatoglu.

On November 15, the Narimi District Court sentenced them for two-years in prison. However, no lawyer wanted to protect the rights of Rafig Tagi and Samir Sadagatoglu.
