BAKU, Azerbaijan, February 3. Transporting wind and solar energy power from Azerbaijan through Georgia across the Black Sea to the European countries will add to the energy security of the region, US Deputy Assistant Secretary for Energy Diplomacy in the Bureau of Energy Resources Laura Lochman said in an interview with Azerbaijan's ARB channel, Trend reports.

"The agreement is a wonderful new development to hear. Transporting wind and solar energy power from Azerbaijan through Georgia across the Black Sea to the European countries will add to the energy security of the region, because of the diversification of sources and suppliers. This is a step for a greater economic prosperity in the entire region and helping meet the commitments we have all pledge on in regard with the climate change," she said.

Lochman pointed out that Azerbaijan has proven itself as a very reliable partner through the years, and again, the country makes sure that this will continue by increasing energy security through the development of new technologies.

She noted that Azerbaijan's renewable energy potential, including the liberated territories, is significant.

"For instance, the potential in offshore wind is enormous. Then you add onshore wind and solar. All this can be beneficial for Azerbaijan’s domestic use and for the export," she added.

The Agreement on Strategic Partnership in the field of green energy development and transmission between the Governments of Azerbaijan, Georgia, Romania, and Hungary, was signed during the visit of President Ilham Aliyev to Bucharest, on 17 December 2022.
