Azerbaijani food imports value up for 8M2023

BAKU, Azerbaijan, September 18. Azerbaijani food imports value edged up by 0.96 percent ($13.2 million) from January through August 2023 to $1.39 billion, Trend reports.

According to the State Customs Committee of Azerbaijan, in the reporting period, the country imported 26,720 tons of meat (up by 2.19 percent) worth $52.7 million (an increase of 16.01 percent) and 8,320 tons of milk (a growth of 25.59 percent). $17.17 million (an increase of 52.78 percent), 10,810 tons of dairy products (a decline of 16.44 percent) $60.26 million (a decrease of 18.74 percent), 205,700 tons of vegetables and fruits (a decrease of 14.09 percent) $139.79 million (a decline of 7.54 percent), 8,680 tons of tea (a decline of 8.92 percent) more than $45.7 million (a decrease of 5.17 percent).

In addition, Azerbaijan also imported more than 774,690 tons of wheat, corn, and rice worth over $239.48 million.

The import of vegetable fats and oils amounted to 87,560 tons, worth more than $115.38 million.

Azerbaijan's foreign trade turnover increased by 1.12 percent ($392.19 million), from $35.1 billion to $35.5 billion, from January through August 2023 compared to the same period in 2022.

According to the State Customs Committee of Azerbaijan, out of the total foreign trade turnover, exports accounted for $24.3 billion, which is $1.89 billion (7.2 percent) less than the same period last year. The share of exports in foreign trade turnover totaled 68.59 percent, compared to 74.74 percent a year earlier.

Besides, Azerbaijan's imports in the reporting period grew by $2.28 billion (25.73 percent), from $8.8 billion to about $11.15 billion. The share of imports in foreign trade turnover amounted to 31.41 percent, compared to 25.26 percent a year earlier.

Thus, in the reporting period, the balance of foreign trade turnover, remaining positive, decreased by more than $4.17 billion (24.01 percent) on an annual basis, to $13.2 billion against $17.37 billion in the reporting period of 2022.
