Azerbaijan Government Considers Increase of Living Wage

Azerbaijan, Baku / corr Trend U.Ismayilova / The Azerbaijan Government intends to increase the living wage AZN 70 in 2008, MP Hadi Rajabli, the chairman of the permanent parliamentary commission on social policy, said on 11 October.

The living wage is an estimation of the consumer basket, which includes minimum composition of food products, non-food products and services, needed for health protection and provision of its vital capability, as well as obligatory payment and collections.

"The Azerbaijan Government's objective is to increase the living wage to minimum wage, which will be increased to AZN 80-90 in 2008, MP said.

In 2007 the minimal wage was defined as AZN 50.

A sum of the living wage adopted by the Cabinet of Ministers for the second half of 2007, is AZN 64.

According to the Confederation of Azerbaijani Trades Unions, as of beginning of July the cost of per capital consumer basket is AZN 96 in average and for able citizens AZN 107.
