Belarus interested in expanding international contacts in energy
Belarus is interested in expanding the international contacts in the area of increasing energy efficiency, Deputy Foreign Minister of Belarus Valery Voronetsky said at an opening ceremony of an expert regional seminar on the issues of increasing energy efficiency in Central and Eastern Europe. The event is taking place in Minsk on October 6, reported Belta.
"Belarus is ready to promote expansion of the international contacts in the issues related to an increase in energy efficiency. Our country is interested in studying the international experience, and there is something we can offer to other countries as well. Belarus is a European country and backs strengthening Europe's stability, safety and well being," the Deputy Foreign Minister said.
According to Valery Voronetsky, "Belarus supports strengthening of the OSCE economic and ecological developments in the area". It is highly important to propose new decisions on the issues of increasing energy efficiency, especially taking into account the growth of prices for energy carriers and a threat of the climate change.
Not possessing energy strategic resources, Belarus pays high attention to the energy innovation development and the international cooperation in developing more efficient decisions on the reduction of power inputs.
Ambassador of Finland to Belarus and member of the OSCE Finnish Office Marja-Liisa Kiljunen said that energy efficiency is a top-priority of the national development plans and an important item of the global safety and stability policy. The climate change has already been looming. Therefore there is a need to find a comprehensive approach to minimize power losses. Trade, transport, environmental protection and energy efficiency should be a single block of issues that are to be settled by the joint global efforts and experience.
Partaking in the seminar aimed at strengthening the regional cooperation in the area of energy efficiency are the countries of Central and Eastern Europe, international experts. The event has been organized by the Bureau of the Coordinator for the OSCE Economic and Ecological Activity under the auspices of the Belarusian government and the OSCE Office in Minsk.
