Tajikistan and Afghanistan discuss cooperation in transport field

Afghanistan, Kabul, Dec. 30 / corr. Trend A. Hakimi / Tajik ambassador to Kabul Sharofiddin Imomov discussed with Afghan Vice President Mohammad Karim Khalili further development of cooperation in trade and economy between Afghanistan and Tajikistan, Afghanistan's Foreign Ministry said.

An individual topic of the talks was to project rail road from Tajikistan to Iran through Afghanistan. This project has been discussed by officials within two last years in Afghanistan, Tajikistan and Iran. The meeting of foreign ministers from three countries was held on 24-25 March, 2008 in Dushanbe.

Trilateral summit was held to support new attempts to create trilateral cooperation and economic council of Tajikistan, Afghanistan and Iran. Iran participates in construction of some hydroelectric power stations in Tajikistan and road to Tajikistan-Afghanistan-Iran. It is also planned to construct railroad connecting Iran, Afghanistan, Tajikistan, Kyrgyzstan and China to expand trade, increase export, reduce transit duties in the region and increase passenger turnover.
