The 12th meeting of the Azerbaijani-Russian inter-governmental commission on economic cooperation will be held in Baku on May 29, the trade representative of Russia in Azerbaijan Yuri Shedrin said at the meeting of the Azerbaijani-Russian Chamber of Business Cooperation on May 16.
"The meeting will focus on the results of one and half year joint activities, as well as on concrete proposals," said Shedrin.
The ambassador of Russia to Azerbaijan Vladimir Dorokhin said that "Russia wants to have good relations with Azerbaijan, and for it is important for Russia not only the position of Azerbaijan in the region and the presence of rich natural resources, but also the fact that Azerbaijan is our neighbor."
Russian investments in Azerbaijan last year amounted to $12 million. As a result of 2008, 550 companies operated in Azerbaijan with Russian capital, the largest of which began its activity in 2008, including brewing company "Baltika", the second largest bank in Russia - Foreign Trade Bank, Russian Railways JSC and others.
The trade representative said that the export of Russia to Azerbaijan amounted to $1991.1 million (growth in 2008 was 42.6 percent), import - $401.4 million (25.4 percent). In total, the trade turnover grew 42.5 percent and amounted to $2.4 billion in 2008.
Last year between the co-chairmen of the commission - the First Vice Primer Minister of Azerbaijan Yagubov Eyyubov and Energy Minister of Russia Sergei Shmatko (new co-chairman) - was held a dialogue, which was stable and constructive.
