Azerbaijan, Baku, August 22 / Trend U. Ismayilova /
Azerbaijani Poultry Farmers Society hopes to get tax benefits to support development of poultry industry in Azerbaijan, the head of the society, Aydin Veliyev, said on August 22.
"We applied to the government with a proposal to free import of feed and other products for poultry from VAT. At present, 90 percent of feed for birds imported. It leads to big expenses for broiler factories," Veliyev said. United VAT rate of 18 percent operates in Azerbaijan.
He said that at present, many poultry factories face problems due to big expenses for birds keeping. Two biggest poultry factories Merdeken Broyler and Hovsan Broyler were closed in Baku.
"These factories suspended their activities in October 2008 due to lack of funds for maintenance of a factory. Lack of funds created problems for entrepreneurs and might have led to significant growth of prices for chicken meat and eggs," the head of the society (chairman of Merdeken Broyler) said.
Azerbaijani Poultry Farmers Society applied to the Azerbaijani government again to get tax benefits.
"If the government does not assist in this sphere, I think that a tendency of broiler factories' closing will continue as small factories have already broken down," Veliyev said.
Veliyev said that poultry factories began to suspend their activities because of bankruptcy.
Azerbaijani Poultry Farmers Society includes 27 enterprises. There are about 26 are poultry factories and 1 - a company-distributor of veterinary medicinal preparations. Number of employees operating in Azerbaijan poultry hits 15,000-20,000 people.
