Georgian government reports signs of stability in economy

Signs of stability have appeared on the real estate market and in the field of vehicle registration.

The Tbilisi City administration issued 38.5 percent more building licenses in August, compared to July. The number of licenses issued by the administration dropped by 11.8 percent in the first half of 2009, compared to the same period of 2008, and by 122 percent compared to 2007, the Georgian government said.

The number of transactions on Georgia's secondary residential market fell by 12.9 compared to 2008. However the registration of secondary apartments increased by 64.4 in 2009, compared to 2007.

In July, vehicle registration fell by 4 percent compared to June, and compared to the same period of 2008, by 32 percent. Vehicle registration increased by 19 percent in the first half of 2009, compared to the same period of 2007.

Regarding the secondary vehicles market, their sales were 18 percent lower in the first half of 2009, compared to same period of 2008, but 38 percent higher than the same period in 2007.
