GDP in Azerbaijan ups 5 percent

In January-August 2009, Azerbaijani GDP increased 5 percent compared to the same period of 2008, the State Statistics Committee said on Sept.15. In current prices GDP indicator made up 20, 628 million manat. GDP per capita increased 3.7 percent by hitting 2341.3 manat ($2912.1).

General production volume in all economic sectors increased 5.3 percent, amounting to 63.5 percent of the GDP. Industry composed 49.3 percent, 10, 162.3 million manat. The services sector increased from 19.2 to 28.6 percent compared to similar period of 2008. VAT in the service sphere increased by 5.7 percent compared to the same period of 2008.

Roughly 7.9 percent of extra cost was created owing to net taxes from production and import.

In January-August of 2009, agriculture, hunting and forestry provided 1292.5million manat, or 6.3 percent of the GDP; construction - 1620.2 million manat (7.9 percent); transport - 1349.6 manat (6.5 percent); communication and post service - 442 million manat (2.1 percent); wholesale and retail trade, automobile field, domestic products and repairing personal-use items - 1485.7 million manat (7.2 percent); restaurants and hotels - 242.9 million manat (1.2 percent); and social and other services - 2393.3 million manat (11.6 percent).

On Sept15, the official exchange rate is 0.8034 manat to $1.
