Azerbaijan is Georgia's strategic partner and values the importance of developing interstate economic relations, Georgia Economic Development Minister Zurab Pololikashvili said during a presentation of the Rakia free economic zone in Georgia. He was addressing an Azerbaijani delegation led by Economic Development Minister Shahin Mustafayev.
Pololikashvili invited the Azerbaijani businessmen to benefit from the free industrial zone, noting that SOCAR Georgia, a subsidiary of the State Oil Company of the Azerbaijan Republic, was recently named the investor of the year.
Mustafayev then mentioned Azerbaijan's favorable business climate thanks to the government's expedient actions, support for entrepreneurship, and serious progress in bilateral relations with several countries, including Georgia. Roughly 40 large companies established by Azerbaijani businessmen operate in Georgia, he said.
In regards to expanding bilateral relations and encouraging Azerbaijani companies to become active in Georgia, Mustafayev said the Azerbaijani Fund for Export and Investment Promotion opened a representative office in Tbilisi in September.
The official added that a delegation of Azerbaijani businessmen visited Poti this year to study Georgia's experience with free industrial zones. The businessmen were invited to get familiar with Rakia's business opportunities.
During the presentation, Rakia Director Khater Massad spoke about the management structure and work principles of the free industrial zone.
The presentation was held with the support of the Economic Development Ministry's AzPromo and Azerbaijani Embassy in Georgia. Representatives from the economic development ministries of Azerbaijan and Georgia, diplomatic missions and over 80 businessmen attended.
