Georgia, Tbilisi, Jan.18 / Trend , N.Kirtskhalia /

Medical maintenance of people insured under the state program will be improved in the second half of 2011, Prime Minister Nika Gilauri said at a government meeting today.

He said that the introduction of new standards in hospitals will take place in the second half of 2011.

"The matter is to improve the quality of maintenance of state-insured citizens. We are working on the introduction of new standards. All health facilities will have an opportunity to improve the quality of services and introduce services of high quality," Gilauri said.

Labor, Health and Social Welfare Minister Sandro Kvitashvili expressed hope that the new standards will not result in the closing of hospitals. He explained it is not planned to make amendments to the licensing of medical activities.

"There are conditions and standards for licensing and the requirements will not be toughened. Regarding the introduction of new standards, if a health care facility will not be able to pass to them, it will not be given the right to participate in the tender and serve the state-insured citizens" the minister said.
