Azerbaijan, Baku, Jan.22 / Trend , I.Khalilova /

IMF's Deputy Director of the Middle East and Central Asia Department Nienke Oomes will be the new head of the organization's mission in Azerbaijan, IMF's permanent mission in Azerbaijan said on Jan.21.

IMF plans to hold consultations in late February and in early March.

During these events, IMF representatives will hold meetings with government officials including the Central bank of Azerbaijan (CBA). The goal is to appraise short-term and medium-term tasks of the government on development prospects of the Azerbaijani economy. Due to the continuous global financial crisis, the fund's mission can also hold debates on how the crisis can influence Azerbaijan's economy.

The Azerbaijani government has cooperated with the IMF at the level of consultations for four years.

Permanent representation of the IMF in Azerbaijan has been functioning since 1993, but cooperation with the government started in 1992. The fund started giving credits to the country in 1995.

Up to now, IMF has provided credits to Azerbaijan within six programs. Azerbaijan will pay off loans previously borrowed from the fund until 2013.  In 2010, the fund will pay loans worth SDR 9.83 million, including SDR 9.66 million in basic debt and SDR 0.18 millions in interest rates.
