Official Delhi has a "great interest in expanding productive cooperation with Turkmenistan," Indian Foreign Minister Preneet Kaur said.
She make the comment at a meeting with Turkmen President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov in Ashgabat. A Turkmen governmental press service said the diplomat arrived with an official delegation of Indian businessmen.
Kaur delivered Indian president Pratibha Patil's and Prime Minister Manmohan Singh's greetings to the wished Turkmen people.
He also said "the Turkmen and Indian peoples are united by traditions of friendship, common historical and cultural roots, originating in the depth of centuries."
In turn, the Turkmen leader said "India has been and remains an important partner and expects the development of dialogue on principles of mutual respect, trust and positive partnership."
