Premiums at Georgian insurance companies hit 372.4 million lari (1.84 lari is $1) in 2009. They increased by 34 percent compared to 2008 and 213 percent compared to 2007, the Georgian National Bank reported earlier today.
Growth trends in attracting premiums decreased by 135 percent compared to 2007.
Most of the attracted premiums fell to health insurance.
The amount of damages compensated by insurance companies totaled 191.3 million lari in 2009. Reinsurers compensated damages worth 18.6 million lari during the reporting period. The bulk of compensation fell to health insurance (78.8 percent) and about 10 percent to ground vehicle insurance.
The country registered 1.439 million insurance policies in 2009. The number of insured under the policy amounted to 1.461 million. Total premiums in health insurance hit 247.2 million lari.
Fourteen insurance companies have operated on the insurance market since Dec. 31, 2009. Two new companies received licenses in 2009.
