Trend interviewed Hyun-Jung Kang, director general of Korean Ultra Construction & Engineering Company.

Q: Your company is constructing a highway between Ganja and Yevlakh in Azerbaijan. At what stage is the project now?

A: The length of a highway is 89 kilometers. We have already completed 56 percent of the work. Everything is implemented according to the plan.

Q: What is the total cost of the project? What equipment and technologies are used in the construction?

A: The project costs $ 165 million. Our company is engaged in the construction of a road and its design. The work does not hamper traffic due to the construction of an overcrossing interchange. We use three crusher plants, two asphalt plants. Roughly 350 units of equipment are used in the construction of the road.

 Q: This is your first project in Azerbaijan. Does your company have any plans to participate in construction of roads, pedestrian crossings and bridges?

A: Ultra Company was founded in 1965. We have participated in the construction of roads, highways, railways, metro stations and residential buildings in Korea for 45 years.

We would like to participate in the construction projects of roads, bridges and tunnels in Azerbaijan and in the future. We intend to make a bid for participation in the construction tender of a road in the Masalli-Astara sector. In this regard, our employees will arrive in Baku on Oct. 8. The project will cost about $200 million.

Moreover, we plan to participate in other road projects.

Q: Your company also specializes in construction of residential buildings and industrial facilities. Do you have any intentions or plans to enter this market in Azerbaijan?

A: Ultra Company also specializes in construction of residential buildings, commercial facilities, hydroelectric power plants and other units in the energy sector. We would like to expand our business in this field in Azerbaijan.

Q: How do you assess the economic situation in Azerbaijan?

A: We have been working in Azerbaijan for two years. We have representation here. We want to expand our business in Azerbaijan, to enter into new spheres, to attract local employees. I think the Azerbaijani market is very attractive to us.
