Thailand, Iran to achieve economic agreements

A joint economic commission, to achieve economic agreements in investment projects between Thailand and Iran will meet next month in Thailand, Iranian Deputy Minister of Economic Affairs and Finance Behrouz Alishiri said.

A joint economic commission, to achieve economic agreements in investment projects  between Thailand and Iran will meet next month in Thailand, Iranian Deputy Minister of Economic Affairs and Finance Behrouz Alishiri said.

Talking in Thailand on the sidelines of a conference on investment opportunities in the Islamic Republic, Alishiri said that "Thailand is regarded an investing country in Asia and according to the figures published by UNCTAD, on average, its investments exceed US $3 billion dollars per annum, but yet, we have not been able to create a robust linkage between the trades people and investors of the two countries."

He said that the investment project owners should look for new sources of finance to attract foreign investment and we must diversify flow of foreign capital and access to international markets.

"Our success depends on our negotiation capacity and power and our power in negotiation, in turn, depends on how ready the projects are and how the investment projects and opportunities are presented. We need to gradually learn the process of presence as well as rules of the game in the international arena, more or less in all levels," Alishiri added.

Meanwhile the Iranian owners of investment projects, in their bilateral negotiations, can present their projects to the Thai side.

Earlier, Alishiri said that "Some US $20 billion investment projects of our country are ready to be presented to the Thai investors in this forum, in which more than 100 outstanding Thai companies, based on the preliminary assessments, have enrolled to participate".

Alishiri notified that marketing of the investing opportunities of the country is an ongoing and constant plan and we should endeavor to be more successful than before, for attracting foreign investment in the international arena.

Thai investors are willing to invest in Iran's different trade and economic fields, Thailand's Minister of Industry Chaiwut Bannawat said, Department of Public Relations, Organization for Investment, Economic and Technical Assistance of Iran reported.

"Thai investors are eager to invest in Iran in various fields such as foodstuff, automotive industry, electronics, IT, tourism, transportation, and mines," Bannawat added.
