Korean specialists will complete the work on a feasibility study and the primary design of the bridge over Baku bay in May, Azerbaijani Deputy Transport Minister Musa Panahov told Trend.

The winner of the tender is the Korean company Dong Sang Engineering.

He said that the work is underway within the feasibility study of a new bridge.

"There are several variants for its location, i.e closer to the island Nargin or the bay," Panahov said.

He said that Korean experts will prepare several variants for the route of the bridge, as well as forms. In case of a positive decision on the bridge construction, detailed engineering will be launched.

A new hinged bridge will connect the two ends of Baku Bay (near the settlements of Bail and Zikh) and contribute to the unloading of the transport infrastructure of Baku. The length of the marine part will hit 14 kilometers. The construction operations will be completed within five years.

A twelve month project of feasibility study was launched in July 2010. The project budget is $1,6 million. The project is funded by KOICA. The grant agreement on the project between Azerbaijan and Korea was signed on March 11, 2010. It is aimed at improving the transport infrastructure of Baku, strengthening the relations and cooperation between the two countries based on the successful implementation of this project.
