Turkmenistan steers foreign investments into medical development

The total costs of the construction of new medical facilities in Turkmenistan has amounted to over $1.5 billion over the past 10 years, Neutral Turkmenistan newspaper reported on Monday.

The article says that in the next three years it is envisaged there will be a further spend of about $500 million for new medical projects, whilst about 30 to 40 per cent of them will be foreign backed.

There will also be work done to upgrade capacity of the domestic pharmaceutical and medical industry, mastering the production of strategically important new medicines, the development of scientific and technical and innovation potential, its direction to import substitution and the increase of export opportunities.

The country will see the building of nine new and renovation of two existing enterprises. These are plants for the production of sterile infusion solutions, mineral and table water from source, disinfectants, iodine products, sterile bandages, medical cotton wool and the packing of medicinal clay and sea salt.

It is planned to spend $2.114 billion for large-scale construction and the reconstruction of existing medical facilities and the purchase of modern medical equipment for the period from 2011 to 2030.

New medical centres - a new dental building, emergency first aid and surgery centre, multispectral children's and morphological centres, five provincial diversified hospitals and others will be constructed using state and foreign investments in the coming years.
