The Industry, Energy and Minerals Use Committee in Kyrgyzstan has approved a bill that electricity tariffs can only be increased after the issue is mutually agreed with parliament, the Press Service of Jogorku Kenesh reported on Tuesday.

The bill's initiator MP Urmat Amanbayeva said the Energy Ministry more than doubled electricity and thermal power tariffs on Jan. 1, 2010, which led to the sharp growth of social tensions, KyrTAG reported.

"Electricity, thermal power and natural gas tariffs are an essential constituent part of the budget of enterprises and population, and change of these tariffs inevitably leads to imbalance of the country's budget, thus strongly affecting the socioeconomic situation in the country," Amanbayeva said.
