Azerbaijan, Baku, Dec. 8 / Trend A. Akhundov /

The unstable situation on European financial markets will not weaken the position of the euro in Azerbaijan, Azerbaijani Association of Banks President Eldar Ismailov said.

"The euro is a stable currency," he told Trend on Thursday. "I do not think there is a danger to the euro. Euro in parallel to dollar and other world currencies works stably worldwide. The euro expands outside the euro zone rather intensively."

He said some countries leaving the euro may have a positive impact on the euro in the world.

"The euro will become convertible if the weak economies leave the euro zone," he said. Thus, the functioning of the euro as a world currency in other countries will increase."

Azerbaijani Central Bank Chairman Elman Rustamov earlier said the risk on global markets is huge, but everybody have money on European markets and take precautions.

"There is no time to take any emotional steps," the head of the Central Bank said. "We are optimistic about the fact that there will be a solution to help the countries affected by the crisis. This will affect the fate of the euro."

European Bank for Reconstruction and Development President Jacques Attali has announced the prospects of the collapse for the European single currency before the Catholic Christmas.
