Russian Prime Minister Vladimir Putin and Turkmen President Gurbanguly Berdimuhammadov recently had discussions over trade and economic relations between their countries, RIA Novosti reported.

"I am very pleased that you found time to come here and talk about current trade and economic relations. In this regard, I would like to say that Turkmenistan is our long-standing traditional partner in many areas of cooperation, primarily of course, in the gas sector.

"I am pleased to note that the volume of our trade turnover grows. Last year it hit 33 per cent which is a very good indicator," Mr Putin said opening a meeting with Turkmen President on Friday. He said the Russian side is pleased with the positive outlook.

"But we understand and see how difficult the situation is on the world markets. I mean that we have common interests of suppliers and it is very good that we are in constant contact and coordinating our joint efforts," Mr Putin added.
