Inflation rate hits 0.5 per cent in Georgia in January

Annual inflation rate in Georgia amounted to 0.5 per cent in Jan, 2012 compared to Jan, 2011, the Georgian Statistics Service told Trend on Friday.

The change in prices in the below-mentioned groups affected the formation of this index during the 12-month period:

Transport: prices increased by 13.8 percent. Accordingly, the share of the group in the annual inflation was 1.4 percentage points. In this group, a significant increase in prices was registered in a subgroup of transport services - 21.2 percent and a subgroup of use of individual vehicles - 9.1 percent.

Housing, water, electricity and gas: prices increased by 2.7 per cent, accordingly, the share of the group in the annual inflation was 0.3 percentage points.

Food and soft drinks: the prices decreased by 1.6 percent during the reporting period and the share of the group in the annual inflation amounted to 0.9 percentage points. The prices on fruit and grapes decreased by 29 percent, vegetables and potatoes - 16.5 percent, and other sweets - 7.2 per cent.

The prices on meat and meat products increased by 23.9 percent; milk, cheese and eggs - 6.8 percent.

In Jan.2012, compared to Jan, 2011 prices for communications group decreased by 7.7 per cent, the share of the group in the annual inflation was 0.3 percentage points.
