Iran's Energy Ministry is working to turn the country into a regional hub for the electricity transfer, the dolat.ir website reports.

At present, Tehran is focused on satisfying Iraq's, Turkey's, Afghanistan's and Pakistan's demand for electricity, Energy Minister Majid Namjoo said.

By preparing its electricity infrastructure, Iran can also transfer nuclear energy produced by Tajikistan, Turkmenistan and even Russia to the countries that need it.

Iran has the capacity to produce more than 65,000 MW of electricity and plans to increase that to 73,000 MW in the summer of 2013. The country's own power consumption dropped by about 10 percent last year in the wake of its targeted subsidies program which removed subsidies for energy and some commodities.
