Baku international sea port has transported 4.75 million of various goods within January September, the head of port Elchin Mirzoyev told in his interview to official website of the ruling party 'Yeni Azerbaijan'.

In his words, 59 per cent of the total volume of transported goods fall to the share of ferry terminal, 22 per cent- oil terminal, the rest - cargo terminal.
Some 6.71 million tons of goods were transported by the port in 2011 which is 16.8 per cent more than indicators of 2010.

"Due to location of the port in centre and busy traffic in the capital transportation of carriages from the port takes a long time. But after construction of new international port in Alat village this issue will be settled, as it will be located at the road in direction of Georgia,"Mirzoyev noted.

Mirzoyev said, the commission of new port complex will take place late in 2014 or early in 2015.
The construction of new international port was launched in November of 2010. It is located 65 kilometers away from Baku in Alat village.

As previously planned, the construction of new international sea port in Alat village will be divided into 3 stages and completed in 2015. The first stage provides construction of two ferry, 3 cargo berths for containers, 'ro ro' vessels and conventional bulk carriers. The second stage provides construction of 3 more cargo berths, the third- construction of 2 additional cargo berths. The port can receive up to 11.6 million tons of goods.
