Iran will inaugurate a coal-fired power plant in the central Tabas region in four years, ISNA quoted Iranian Deputy Energy Minister Mohammad Behzad as saying on Monday.

Behzad added that a Chinese company will finance the project.

In July, he said that the Chinese company would invest $500 million in building the power plant which will have the capacity of generating 650 megawatts of electricity per day.

The administration has prepared plans to establish coal-fired plants with a total capacity of 5,000 megawatts, he noted.

By the end of the fifth five-year economic development plan (2015), Iran will boost its electricity generation capacity by 25 gig watts (GW) to reach 73GW, Energy Minister Majid Namjou said on February 7.

Iran currently exchanges electricity with Turkey, Armenia, Turkmenistan, Azerbaijan, Pakistan, Afghanistan and Iraq.
