Baku Metro plans to commission two new stations - Avtovagzal and Memar Ajami-2 by September next year, Baku Metro head Taghi Ahmedov told journalists.

He said the process of resettlement from the station areas is underway. However, this process is very difficult through the courts, so the commissioning of stations may be delayed.

By 2016, Baku Metro intends to open metro station Hazi Aslanov-2, Kohna Guneshli and Teze Guneshli.

At present, the length of Baku Metro lines is 34.6 kilometres. Now it has two lines. In future the number of subway lines is planned to be increased to five, the length up to 119 kilometres, and the number of stations up to 76.

The metro has been operating since 1967 and has 23 stations. A 20-year programme for the development of the metro was adopted earlier.
