Iran plans to omit the dollar and euro from its economic transactions in the future and rely on local currencies for trade, the Iranian Economy and Finance Minister Shamseddin Hosseini said on Monday.

Private companies have received the suggestion favourably, the IRNA News Agency quoted Hosseini as saying.

He went on to note that following US-generated sanctions, the Central Bank of Iran shifted its foreign exchange reserves to the euro and gold which proved very profitable.

Iran's Foreign Exchange Centre spokesman Samad Karimi also said on Monday that in recent months, requests for importing goods in local currencies have increased.

This is while dollar-based requests have decreased, the IRIB News Agency quoted Karimi as saying.
