Turkmen GDP up 9.2 per cent in four months

Within the past four months, the growth of Turkmenistan's gross domestic product (GDP) was at 9.2 per cent, according to the Ministry of Finance of Turkmenistan.

'The objective of turning Turkmenistan into an industrialised country is being successfully implemented due to the introduction of comprehensive and structural economic reforms', a report said.

The share of industry in the country's GDP reached 57 per cent in a short period and the share of construction has also increased amounting to 12.2 per cent. A 5.1 per cent increase is observed in investments in various sectors of the economy.

In January-April 2012, Turkmenistan's GDP growth was at 10.5 per cent.

Turkmenistan holds one of the key positions in the region in terms of supply of natural gas which is imported by Russia, China and Iran.

Alongside, the government has adopted a policy of diversification of the economy such as the field of oil and gas processing, textile industry, cotton processing industry and production of building materials that have been developing in recent years.
