In January-March 2013, counter services occupied one of the leading positions in Azerbaijan's foreign trade relations totalling $3.1 billion, according to the balance of payments posted on the website of the Central Bank of Azerbaijan (CBA).
According to the balance sheet, services to the sum of $1.9 billion were rendered by non-residents to residents of Azerbaijan. Azerbaijani residents provided to residents of foreign countries $1.2 billion worth of services.
At least 12.4 per cent in the balance of counter services accounted for transport services. In total, these services were provided to the sum of $384 million. Of these, 52.1 per cent accounted for the use by Azerbaijani residents of transport systems of foreign countries. The cost of transportation services provided by Azerbaijani residents to non-residents amounted to $183.9 million.
During January-March 2013, the cost of tourist services provided to foreigners visiting Azerbaijan totalled $0.8 billion, of which 39.1 per cent were provided to non-residents visiting Azerbaijan on business trips.
In turn, tourism services provided to residents of foreign countries in Azerbaijan increased by 12.6 per cent to $0.7 billion compared to January-March 2012. Of these, 62.1 per cent of expenditures fell to services of a personal nature.
In January-March 2013, the proportion of counter services of the total volume of export-import operations in Azerbaijan with foreign countries amounted to 29 per cent.
