SOCAR (State Oil Company of Azerbaijan) will conduct an overhaul of the 1020 millimeter Hajigabul-Gazakh gas pipeline within three years, a source in SOCAR told Trend on Monday.
According to him, the decision to repair a 210-kilometer pipeline was taken on the grounds that it was built 30 years ago. In addition, accidents have been occurring recently on it, particularly in the regions passing through mountainous terrain.
"An order for pipes has already been placed, and repair of the pipeline will soon," the representative of SOCAR said.
Earlier, all gas pipelines in Azerbaijan have been transferred from the Azerigas production association to the Department for gas exports of SOCAR.
According to the source, the management has prepared the construction and repair program for 2013 and program of activities for 2014-2016, under which it is planned to carry out all the work on reconstruction and modernization of the gas pipeline system.
A source said that work has begun to repair a 1,200 millimeter gas pipeline in the Altiagaj-Aghsu area.
In addition, in order to ensure uninterrupted supply of gas to Mingachevir and the Mingyachevir power plant, repair work has started on a 720-millimeter pipeline "gas distribution station Mingyachevir - Mingechevir city". The length of the high pressure pipeline is 12 kilometers.
According to the source, construction and repair works are underway on more than 300 gas distribution stations and units of regulation of gas. Also, as the process for gasification in cities, villages and towns of the country progresses, works are underway on the construction of new substations.
