Prime Minister of Georgia Bidzina Ivanishvili expressed an interest in a fast construction of the Baku-Tbilisi-Kars railway.

"We speed the completion of construction of the Baku-Tbilisi-Kars railway to participate in the export of goods and troops out of Afghanistan" - said on Wednesday Bidzina Ivanishvili at a briefing after a meeting with NATO Secretary General, Mr. Anders Fogh Rasmussen.

According to him, after the 2014 Georgian contingent will remain in Afghanistan.

Prime Minister honored once again the memory of those killed in the Afghanistan war. "We are proud of them and bow to their heroism. After 2014, the Georgian contingent will continue to actively participate in Afghanistan".

In the framework of the "Baku-Tbilisi-Kars" railway it is planned to build a new 105-kilometer branch of the railway. In addition, there will be reconstructed railway section Marabda-Akhalkalaki-Tbilisi in Georgia, which will increase its capacity up to 15 million tons of cargo per year. In Akhalkalaki will be built a point to transfer trains from the existing Georgian railway tracks to the European ones.

As expected, 30 million tons of cargo will be transported each year by the Baku-Tbilisi-Kars railway, which will have a direct access to the European railway network.

In the future, with the completion of the project "Marmaray" (construction of a tunnel under the Bosporus) there will be provided an access to Europe, using the Baku-Tbilisi-Kars railway.
