Iran exports $46 millions worth of goods via Aras Free Zone

Some $46 million worth of goods have been exported from Iran's Aras Free Trade - Industrial Zone (AFZ) during first six months of the current solar year (started on March 21), the managing director of AFZ, Sadeq Najafi said, IRNA news agency reported.

He went on to note that, Iran has exported about 75,000 tons of goods to 14 countries including Georgia, Azerbaijan, Turkmenistan, Turkey, Germany, Iraq, Venezuela, UAE, Pakistan and Syria from AFZ during the period.

According to the report, bitumen, grease, glassware, furniture, textile and commercial trucks are among the exported goods from the AFZ.

On September 15, Iranian media outputs quoted Najafi as saying that over 8,200 tons of goods have been produced in AFZ, located in East Azerbaijan province, in the north-west of Iran, in the first five months of the current solar year.

The value of the produced goods are around 443.5 billion rials (some $13.43 million based on the rate of USD at the free market)," he added. "The mentioned goods were produced in 72 industrial units".

According to Najafi, over 52,000 tons of goods worth over $39 million were exported via the AFZ's customs in the mentioned period.

The Aras Free Zone measures 97 km². It is located 137 km from Tabriz, one of the major academic and industrial hubs of Iran, and 761 km from the capital city Tehran.

Jolfa, the center of the Zone, has a century old background in international commercial and customs activities.
