Azerbaijani banks direct over 12 percent of credits to development of regions

In January-August 2013 the credits, granted to population in Azerbaijan's regions, amounted to 1,786.06 million manats, or 12.35 percent of the total loan portfolio of banks, Central Bank of Azerbaijan (CBA) said.

According to the CBA, in Baku this figure amounted to 12,669 million manats, where the credits in the national currency accounted for 8905.55 million manats. As of September 1, 2013 the average interest rate on credits in the country was 14.1 percent, and in Baku - 13.3 percent.

The crediting volume in Absheron economic region amounted to 399.48 million manats at an average rate of 18.3 percent, in Aran - 626.93 million manats at a rate of 19.4 percent, in Mountain-Shirvan - 61.2 million manats at a rate of 21.7 percent, in Ganja - Gazakh - 229.89 million manats - 20.3 percent, in Guba-Khachmaz - 66.35 million manats - 20.7 percent, in Lankaran - 184.3 million manats - 22.3 percent, in Sheki-Zagatala - 86.85 million manats - 21.6 percent, in Upper Karabakh - 34.16 million manats - 14.2 percent, in Kalbajar-Lachin - 12.96 million manats - 21.7 percent, in Nakhchivan - 83.9 million manats - 15.2 percent.

There are 43 banks in Azerbaijan.
