Iran to export 10,000 cars to Russia annually

Iran's giant car manufacturer company Irankhodro will annually export 10,000 cars to Russia, the deputy director of Irankhodro said on Tuesday.

"Based on the singed agreement, Irankhodro will exports Samand LX, Samand SI, Soren ELX to Russia," the IRNA News Agency quoted Abdolazim Sa'dian as saying.

"The Memorandum of understanding will be valid for three years, and could be extended for another two years," he added.

"Irankhodro can also increase the number of exported cars in future," Sa'dian said.

Iran produced 291,638 cars in the first six months of the current Iranian calendar year, which started on March 21, the ISNA News Agency reported.

The figure shows 36.5 percent decrease compared to first half of the previous year.

Some 247,315 sedan cars, 40,629 pickup trucks, 3,485 trucks, 184 buses, and 25 minibuses were produced in the country in the mentioned period.

Iran exported some 1,456 cars in the first five months of the current Iranian calendar year. The figure shows a 94.34 percent decrease compared to the same period of the previous year, the Mehr News Agency reported.

The value of the exported cars was around $11 million which is 92.12 percent less than the same time span last year.

The average price of the exported cars was $7,845.

This means Iranian cars are 40 percent more expensive this year.

Iraq, which imported some 894 cars, was the main destination for Iranian cars. The Arab country accounted for 58.31 percent of Tehran's total car exports.

Azerbaijan and Ukraine were the other two major importers of Iranian cars, with 15.11 and 10.99 percent respectively.

Iran produced some 989,110 cars in 2012, which made the country Asia's eighth largest car manufacturer.

Iran also stood at the world's 18th place, the ISNA News Agency reported.

China, Japan, South Korea, India, Thailand, Turkey, and Indonesia were Asia's seven largest car manufacturers.

Iran's automobile output faced 40 percent decrease in 2012. The country was Asia's 5th largest car manufacturer in 2011, with a total output of 1,648,505.

Increasing prices of raw materials and foreign currencies are the main problems that the car manufacturers are facing with.

The world's total car production stood at 84,141,209 cars in 2012, which is 5.3 percent more than in preceding year.
