Contractor for final section of Western Europe - Western China corridor defined

The joint venture company Todini-Impregilo Akkord has been defined as the contractor for the construction of 37 kilometres of the Tashkent -Shymkent road. This the last section of the Western Europe-Western China international transit corridor to be the reconstructed, according to a message of Kazakhstan's Ministry of Transport and Communications.

'Contests for selection of contractors for the last two sections of the Tashkent -Shymkent road are still ongoing. In total the Tashkent - Shymkent road is divided into three sections with total length of 99 kilometres', the message said.

According to the ministry, after reconstruction the road will be transferred to the first technical category with four lanes and a cement concrete coating. Aside from that, construction of a roundabout and five overpasses at the section is also envisaged.

Realisation of the project on construction of the entire road is scheduled for 2015.

The Tashkent - Shymkent road is a part of the Western Europe-Western China international transit corridor.

On Kazakhstan's territory the total length runs to 2787 kilometres. Some 2452 kilometres of the corridor are subject to reconstruction. Some 215 kilometres of road was commissioned in 2011 and 700 kilometres in 2012. A route along 806 kilometres of the road will be commissioned by the year end.
